Peeyush Ranjan, an ex-chief technology officer at Flipkart and Google executive, has become a partner at Mukesh Bansal's startup incubator Meraki Labs.
San Francisco-based Ranjan is going to play a central role in expanding Meraki's foothold in Silicon Valley and guiding its artificial intelligence (AI) strategy. His hiring is a key move for Meraki Labs, which is positioning itself as a platform of launches for visionary AI-fueled startups.
What did Peeyush Ranjan say?
Discussing his new position, Ranjan stated that his concentration would be to set Meraki's AI roadmap and ensure the right types of problems are solved. "Meraki's mission is to be a moonshot factory for great projects, and in today's era, AI is an essential ingredient of that," he explained to The Economic Times.
"A large portion of my job will be to steer the AI vision for Meraki Not simply using AI for the sake of it."
Ranjan highlighted the importance of being based in Silicon Valley, where it enables Meraki to tap on global talent and networks. He indicated that he would be engaging closely with incubator founders to sharpen their technology and product strategy. One of his primary duties will also be to guide the technical direction of Nurix AI, an enterprise AI startup incubated at Meraki Labs.
Constructing the AI future through strategic leadership
Ranjan will be a member of the board of Mukesh Bansal's AI startup Nurix AI, which raised $27.5 million in seed capital from Accel and General Catalyst in September last year. The startup is working on building bespoke AI agents to manage intricate business tasks such as customer support and sales domains that Ranjan calls time-consuming, error-prone, and ready for AI-driven disruption.
"The entire potential for Nurix is to penetrate deep into business operations and observe how AI can be leveraged," he said, noting that he would help craft Nurix's technical architecture and make strategic leadership hires.
Mukesh Bansal, the co-founder of Myntra and the founder of Meraki Labs, rolled out the red carpet for Ranjan with superlatives. "With his rich product thinking and engineering leadership, he will be instrumental in building new companies, spearheading our AI strategy, and getting Meraki firmly rooted in Silicon Valley," Bansal stated. He also underscored Ranjan's background in creating large-scale products that were utilized all over the world.
